No official name on the inventory sheet beyond the obvious one.
Not a handset at all – a worn pair: a plain ring, spoken into directly to transmit, and a separate earpiece that melds into the ear canal to receive, snug enough not to fall out and discreet enough that most people won’t spot it even up close.
FILE NOTES
Still formally on field trial under Officer Rhabbatt’s eye.
A shared pool of twenty charges covers both sending and receiving – every use of either end draws the same pool down, so a talkative pair burns through it fast. Experimental and not fully reliable: roughly one use in twenty fails outright, split evenly between flat static, where the message is simply lost, and a sharp feedback squeal that deafens the wearer for several rounds.
New recruits Dew and Branson field-tested an early pair and handed them back after Dew reported hearing voices that weren’t his partner’s.
Officially logged as the units testing fine on return.
Unofficially, word around the Section House is that it has more to do with whatever’s been happening to Dew since the Aramis pod than with the radios themselves.
STATUS: Experimental, Armoury issue, still formally on trial. No fancier name has stuck – everyone just calls them the walkie-talkies.
