Mikael was, before whatever was done to him, a name Pitr said with real affection – “Mikael, you live! That makes me very happy!” – from behind the bars of the same facility where Griffiths kept his younger subjects. Whatever came out of that cell afterward barely resembled a person: immense, nearly unkillable, and furious.

That affection never told the whole story. Long before Griffiths ever got hold of him, Mikael was already a killer in his own right – the prime suspect in fifteen deaths, never brought to trial. Whatever Griffiths actually saw in that history, it made Mikael what he called, in his own clinical notes, a good experiment: a subject whose violence was already proven, and whose disappearance nobody was ever going to spend much effort chasing.

He tore through a squad of Nesterrook half-orcs and killed at least one bystander outright before the Agents cornered him in an abandoned Bank Street warehouse. He went through the third-floor window rather than be taken, and hit the pavement hard enough to leave his outline pressed into the stone – and got back up.

For a few seconds, manacled and losing, something in him surfaced – the black sheen gone from his eyes, a massive scar and burn marks visible under the gore, recognising Krusha by name and pleading for help against something he called the darkness and the cold. It didn’t last. Whatever answered instead of him drove the Agents to finish it with Saarkh’s own stolen cold iron dagger – the only thing that put him down for good, black smoke curling from the wound as he died.

STATUS: Filed under The Unknown. Whatever crimes the body committed – before Griffiths ever touched him, and after – the man Pitr recognised was buried under all of it long before the Agents ever met him. Filed as a victim as much as a threat, and a killer both times over – the file just never found a clean way to say so.
