STATUS Deceased, banished, or freed – outcome unconfirmed SECTION Bound into Overseer Kaleb’s service; posed as household staff, Lord Valden’s dinner table, Arn Griishank FIRST ON RECORD Session 50 – pouring drinks at Lord Valden’s table, Arn Griishank
Deville arrived at Lord Valden’s table as if she were simply part of the household – pouring drinks with a housecat’s grace, teleporting to top up an empty glass before anyone noticed she’d moved, laughing a laugh Krusha later described as sounding like the tinkling of money. Everything about her was built to be noticed and trusted in the same breath, right down to Overseer Kaleb insisting she’d be the one to “tend to” the Lord’s needs once his medicinal smoke sent him off for the night.
What the dinner never let on was that Deville wasn’t a guest of the household at all. Kaleb had trapped her prime material form and her true planar self separately – her body did the entertaining upstairs while her actual self sat chained in one of his detention cells, held by a lesser planar binding inside a warded circle, her movements stuttering like a reel missing frames. She couldn’t even strike out once the Agents were thrown in beside her.
FILE NOTES
Bound or not, Deville was the one who got the Agents out. She distracted the guard, slipped a longsword, a shortsword, and Krusha’s own holy symbol through the bars, and only mentioned afterward that the Agents still couldn’t reach their own manacles. Once they’d broken their chains by hand, she led them through the donjon herself – clenching her fists uselessly at every guard she passed, unable to explain until much later why she kept giving their position away rather than fighting alongside them. She simply wasn’t able to.
The deal came due once the Agents reached her cell: free her from the binding, and she’d get them past whatever stood between them and Kaleb. Released, her prime material form and true form folded back into one – the chains “shattering into thousands of tinkling shards,” her eyes burning crimson, an unknown length of forced hospitality dropped in a single breath. Her first stop afterward wasn’t the exit. It was Kaleb.
What she did on the way down more than settled the account. A soldier who got between her and the lab died with her lips against his throat, drained rather than cut. Kaleb himself she went for directly, distracted enough by a demanded kiss that the Agents got their opening on him. She left him alive – but not, by her own account, for long.
“Well sugar, the binding has been broken. As a token of appreciation for your cordial hospitality, I’ve invited a friend to assist with the redecoration of this fine donjon. He should be here any minute… And he’ll take a special interest in you and your fine Project, sugar.”
Deville, to Overseer Kaleb, on her way out

STATUS: Filed under The Bad, though the file has been amended since it was first opened. Deville spent considerably longer as Kaleb’s prisoner than as anyone’s accomplice, and kept her side of a bargain struck under duress to the letter – which doesn’t make what she did to earn her freedom any less final. Whether she was destroyed, banished, or simply left once the debt was settled is still not on the record.
