Booznayha
STATUS Unclear – fled the Regent Theatre mid-collapse, fate unconfirmed
SECTION No Section 18 affiliation; drummer, Jouvaine Jongleurs, Regent Playhouse Theatre
FIRST ON RECORD Session 41 – performing “An Absence of Light” at the Regent Theatre

Every account of the Jouvaine Jongleurs’ show starts with the drum.

Booznayha kept the beat from a rising platform at the back of the stage – a genuine satyr, horned and shaggy-coated, rather than one of the troupe’s nine shapeshifting performers – every hit amplified through a bank of cone-shaped devices built into the floor beneath him.

Once he started playing, he did not stop for anything, waving off interruptions with one hand while the other kept time, wholly absorbed in the performance.

That rhythm wasn’t just theatre.

The slow, hypnotic BOOM BOOM BOOM was doing the same work as TeeCruise’s enthralling voice, holding the packed hall quiet and compliant enough to follow instructions nobody sober would agree to – instructions that ended, that night, with much of the audience reading Dr Griffiths’ rune-trapped “praise” notes aloud on cue.

“Bravo Booznayha, fantastic!” “Fantastic Booznayha, encore!”
Every note detonated on his own name.

FILE NOTES

He didn’t seem to notice he was in a fight until he was already hurt.

Raven cut him twice going for the drum itself before he reacted at all – less anger than genuine confusion, sniffing the air, asking why she was jabbing him with those.

Once he placed the smell and recognised TeeCruise nearby, he decided the humans weren’t worth the trouble and bounded off the stage and through the foyer, Boosay’s soldiers putting a couple of Kemer blasts after him on his way out.

TeeCruise’s own read on it, once the illusion broke, was that losing Booznayha cost the troupe control they never got back – the charmed crowd got considerably harder to manage the moment the drumming stopped.

Whether that makes him complicit in what Griffiths did with that control, or simply an act that got paid to perform and never asked what the music was actually being used for, is exactly the kind of question the jongleurs’ own testimony was never going to answer honestly.

“Huhh, what is your problem lady? Stop jabbing me with those! You cut me? … I’m going to take a break. Before I get angry with these humans. They smell funny.”
