A triple-masted caravel of the Jouvaine Empire, built – per her own commissioning plans – for trade, exploration, and the defence of the Empire’s sea lanes. She was doing none of those things the night the Vessentaag took her hostage in open water, passengers and crew alike held below decks under threat of the scythe.

The Agents boarded under cover of fog, black-hooded and paddling skimmers across open water past sharks and worse, taking the ship castle by castle in near silence – until it wasn’t silent any more. Below decks, Henri Larcaud and his acolytes cost the boarding party dearly: Agent Hawke didn’t survive the fight that freed the passenger cabins.

A locked casket recovered from the aft cabin turned out to be the more lasting problem. Whatever was inside registered as dangerously powerful under inspection – fire, or something like it, sealed under a layer of warded lightning – and clunked audibly enough on its own that the Agents made the only call that seemed sane and heaved it over the side. It detonated underwater moments later, roughly where it went in.

STATUS: Filed under Locations. Hostages freed, ship escorted safely back to harbour. The casket’s actual contents were never recovered.
